Dr. Arunkumar Thirugnanasambandam is a distinguished mechanical engineer with over 15 years of extensive teaching and research experience. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Materials & Surface Metamorphosis (CSMSM) at the Chennai Institute of Technology, Chennai, India.
Dr. Arunkumar’s expertise spans a wide range of cutting-edge fields, including surface coatings, additive manufacturing, ceramics, polymers, nanomaterials, nanofluids, tribological behavior, and mechanical testing. His innovative contributions have firmly established him as a leading expert in these areas.
He has played a pivotal role as Co-Principal Investigator in a funded research project by the Ministry of Defense, CVRDE, Chennai. Currently, he serves as the Principal Investigator of the SERB-TARE Fellowship, collaborating with Chennai Institute of Technology and NIT Trichy. Additionally, he is an overseas fellow affiliated with the National University of Singapore (NUS), further enhancing his international research impact.
Dr. Arunkumar has authored more than 130 research articles published in prestigious SCI/WoS and Scopus-indexed journals, achieving a cumulative impact factor exceeding 250+ (as per Journal Citation Reports ® Clarivate Analytics). His work has garnered 1600+ citations, with an H-Index of 19+, and he holds over 10 patents that demonstrate his commitment to technological innovation. His remarkable achievements have earned him recognition as one of the world’s top 2% scientists, as listed by Stanford University, USA, and Elsevier.
In addition to his research contributions, Dr. Arunkumar serves as an Editor for Open Engineering (De Gruyter) and a Managing Guest Editor for Materials Today: Proceedings. He is also an active reviewer for over 15 international journals and has successfully organized several international conferences, including FRESM’21 and ARME’19, showcasing his leadership in advancing academic discourse.
Dr. Arunkumar is an active member of four international professional bodies, reflecting his deep engagement with the global scientific community. Passionate about mentoring young engineers and researchers, he is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of innovators and leaders in engineering.
